A supporter of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic was arrested after demanding a firearm from the police to kill opposition leader Dragan Djilas.

The Nova.rs portal said that the man called the police after hearing claims on the pro-regime Happy and Pink TV stations that Djilas wanted to see Vucic dead and he wanted to kill the opposition leader first.

The man, identified by the initials ZS, is from the city of Pozarevac, home town and stronghold of the late Yugoslav and Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.

Djilas, leader of the Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP), told Nova.rs that the incident is the result of an orchestrated campaign against him by pro-regime media outlets. “What that man did is the consequence of everything published by Vucic’s media about me. The fact that he called the police to demand a firearm to kill me shows that he believes my murder is an act of patriotism. There are a lot of people like him in Serbia but I don’t think about what someone like that could do,” he said.
