Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in October, on the sidelines of the 'Belt and Road' forum in China, learns the Demostat research centre from diplomatic sources.

The presidents Serbia and Russia have already publicly confirmed their arrival at the China summit, but it remains an open question whether they will also meet, which would be their first face-to-face meeting since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

Vucic recently announced that he would meet Chinese President Xi Jinping during the summit, stating that he is a great friend of Serbia and that he is looking forward to the meeting, Demostat reported.

„By the end of the year, I expect serious and important talks with our very, very important partners. In October, I will make an important visit to China. The big question is what will happen there, because the arrival of Putin is also expected,“ Vucic said in August.

Demostat noted that a meeting with Putin would undoubtedly bring Vucic points in the election campaign, but it would not send a good message to the West, especially at a time when it is not clear whether the Russian factor is also involved in the latest events in the north of Kosovo.
