Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke on the phone on Monday with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and said they had a “good and open exchange of views” on “all issues of mutual interest,” including the situation in Kosovo, economic cooperation and European integrations.
Vucic said in an Instagram post that he “informed Chancellor Scholz, in detail, about the practically unbearable situation for the Serb community in Kosovo and Metohija, and about Pristina’s persistent evasion of its accepted and signed obligations, especially regarding the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM).” (Kosovo and Metohija is the official name for what the Serbian authorities consider to be the country’s southern province)
The Serbian President said he emphasized that, “on this not always easy path,” Serbia “needs help from its partners, such as Germany, and is counting on continued support for Euro-integrations as well as concrete incentives that would give new impetus to the continuation of reform processes and new energy to countries on the EU path.”
Vucic said he and Scholz exchanged views “on all the delicate issues in the context of global events,” and particularly discussed “Serbia’s place and role in preserving peace and stability in the region,” and its European path.
He said he reiterated that Serbia consistently advocates for intensifying diplomatic activities in the context of all current conflicts and open issues burdening Europe and the Western Balkans region.
The Serbian President added that he thanked Germany for its commitment to excellent economic relations with Serbia and significant investments that have contributed to Serbia's rapid progress, highlighting the enormous investment potential created within the framework of EXPO 2027.
