Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, stated that, as President, he cannot sign the Law on Same-Sex Unions, if the National Assembly adopts it, because he is "obliged to protect the Constitution."

„The Constitution refers to the Family Law, which defines marriage as a legally regulated union of a man and a woman. Therefore, I wouldn’t be able to sign the law on same-sex unions and I would return it to the National Assembly,“ Vucic said in an interview with Blic.

He added that he did not rule out the possibility that the announced amendments to the Constitution, which currently concern only the judiciary, would include provisions enabling such minority unions to exercise their rights, but that the highest legal document is clear for now.
