Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin told a BRICS security summit that a global conflict began when Germany was re-united.

“When defeated Germany was united we did not immediatelly realize that a global conflict had begun and the first victims of that conflict were the USSR and Yugoslavia. Revenge for defeat in WW2 was launched,” a government press release quoted him as telling the BRICS member state and partners summit in St. Petersburg.

Vulin said that Serbs and Russians believe that the truth is sufficient in itself “which is why we did not defend it too much nor did we take seriously the attempts to revise the truth about WW 2”. According to the Serbian Deputy PM, the world is governed with lies. He added that Russia was told lies about NATO not expanding to the east and that the Serbs were told lies that the Kosovo problem would be resolved within the UN. “All of you were told lies that Serbia was being killed in 1999 because it committed crimes … just as you were told the lie that genocide was committed in Srebrenica and that the Serbs are a genocidal nation.. Aren’t the Germans a genocidal nation,” he told the meeting.

“We naively believed that peace in Europe and the world would be maintained by the descendants of the Germans who are ashamed of the crimes committed by their grandfathers. The descendants of criminals from WW2 are not ashamed of the crimes of their fathers but are ashamed of the defeat of their fathers and dream of revenge,” Vulin said.

He said the lack of shame showed that fear alone keeps the peace and that forgetting the horrors of the global conflict led us into the reality of a possible new global conflict. “The conflict started at the level of values that should determine the future of civilization… The world is divided into those whose supreme values are God, nation and natural family and those who live in a world of only consumers which has no God, no nation and no natural family,” he said.

According to Vulin, fear or reason have to be returned to global politics. He called for a return of fear of destruction, shame for past crimes and the establishment of a system of collective security with defined rules in which revolutions in color won’t be the way to change the will of the electorate.

He said that BRICS could grow into a guarantee of security which would restore the balance of fear if its member states manage to strengthen their alliance and overcome differences.
