Waste water treatment levels low in Serbia

The report said that there is no comprehensive plan for water treatment in line with defined indicators and dynamics. It listed the reasons for that as: a lack of defined indicators, failure to introduce laws and regulations, lack of funds and inadequate use of approved funds.

The DRI said water treatment falls under the jurisdiction of the Environmental Protection Ministry and the Waters Directorate as well as the Construction, Traffic and Infrastructure Ministry.

According to the report, an action plan to prevent water pollution calls for 6.9 billion Dinars (1 Euro – 117 Dinars), 91 percent of which is earmarked to reduce pollution in communal waters. Official data showed

The report said that the country’s sewer network expanded by 2,175 kilometers and that more than 112,000 new households connected to that network, raising the percentage of households with access to sewers from 60.1 to 67.2 percent.
