Water supply problems in Belgrade suburb
Residents in the Belgrade municipality of Grocka told N1 that they were having water supply problems in the heat wave and were forced to buy bottled water.
Grocka is the second outlying suburb with water supply problems in the past few weeks. Residents of Zeleznik were told by the city water supply company not to use the water coming out of their faucets because it was polluted by a cracked sewage pipe. The city authorities deployed tankers with drinking water to that suburb, something they have not done in Grocka.
The residents of Grocka said the water coming out of their faucets was muddy and not fit to be drunk. They said the city authorities had not deployed water tankers adding that they were told they would have to pay for the tankers themselves. One of the residents said he did not have water in his home for the past 3 weeks. A large number of the local people are farmers who have wells on their properties but they say that is not enough to keep their homes and farms supplied.
Grocka is a large municipality with a population of some 80,000 not including people with weekend homes. The local residents said the city authorities promised to solve the issue by hooking up Grocka’s water supply system with one closer to the city center.
