Citizens who gathered in front of the Serbian Embassy in Budapest on February 2 to express their support for the student protests in Serbia have been demanding an apology from the Embassy for two weeks and asking who was the man who waved his middle finger at them from the window of the Serbian diplomatic mission's building. On February 2, the Serbian diaspora in Budapest gathered on the Heroes Square in front of the Serbian embassy to show their support for the students.

The gathering was marked by a minor incident, when an unknown man showed the crowd the middle finger from the window of the embassy building.

A group of citizens, signed as „Diaspora“, addressed the Embassy of Serbia in Budapest in the following days with a request to identify the man who was seen in the frame of the window, as well as for the Embassy to issue a public apology for the said incident.

However, they received an invitation to a meeting with Ambassador Aleksandra Djurovic. The citizens refused this invitation, stressing that the demands from the letter can be fulfilled without a meeting.

„We repeat, our demands are to establish the identity of the man who caused the incident with behavior unworthy of a diplomatic institution, to take appropriate measures, and to issue a public apology to the Serbian diaspora in Hungary. We believe that a public apology is more appropriate than talking to three representatives, given that the incident took place in the public area. Also, we expect to prevent the repetition of such situations in the future, which cause damage to the reputation of the Republic of Serbia and its institutions,“ reads the letter from the citizens addressed to the Embassy of Serbia, which N1 has seen.

N1 also asked the diplomatic and consular representation of Serbia in Budapest who was the man in the video, but did not receive an answer. The Embassy did not answer whether they would send an apology to the citizens either.
