Hundreds of women from the north of Kosovo called the KFOR commander to prevent the opening of the bridge across the Ibar river in the divided city of Mitrovica.
The letter to Major General Ozkan Ulutas was signed by more than 400 women from the majority-Serb north of Kosovo.
Spokeswomen told reporters in Mitrovica North that they do not represent any organization, institution or political party.
“After months of talks with other women and the latest events and protests, including arrests and other tension-filled situations, several of us decided to try to sum up the greatest concerns and fears of the women in northern Kosovo,” the letter said.
It called the KFOR commander to act and warned that any reduction of KFOR troop numbers on the bridge and around it would send the message that those fears do not matter because of the plans of the Kosovo government.
The authorities in Pristina have been pushing for the opening of the bridge that divides Mitrovica into the mainly-Serb north and Albanian south.
