Serbia’s Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic chaired the first meeting of the Working Group for Monitoring the Activities of the United States Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regarding the potential introduction of sanctions on the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS), said the Ministry in a press release.

“The Serbian Government is working diligently to prevent the negative effects of sanctions. At this time, it is crucial that we receive further clarifications from the US administration, which I believe will happen either today or tomorrow. At the same time, we are preparing for dialogue with the incoming US administration to establish a platform for negotiations with the Russian side. We are all working in sync as one team, and our goal is for the state, led by President Aleksandar Vucic, to reach the best solutions in the interest of the Republic of Serbia,” said Minister Djedovic Handanovic.

She reiterated that it is necessary for NIS to continue operating smoothly during this transitional period, noting that the state will continue to monitor market supply and prices and to talk to all market participants in order to maintain stability.

The meeting was attended by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin, Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric, and Dragutin Matanovic, member of the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS) Board of Directors.
