Wreaths laid, Immortal Regiment march on WW2 VE Day

Wreath laying ceremonies and a march were organized in Belgrade to mark WW 2 Victory in Europe day on Friday.

Prime Minister Djuro Macut, acting on behalf of President Aleksandar Vucic, laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Mt. Avala outside the Serbian capital.

Wreaths were also laid at a monument to fallen Soviet Red Army troops.

Serbian cabinet ministers accompanied by Russia’s Ambassador in Belgrade Alexander Bocan-Harchenko took part in the Immortal Regiment march in memory of participants’ ancestors through the center of the city. A cardboard cutout of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The march started from the Liberators of Belgrade Cemetery and ended at Republic Square for a concert by Serbian and Russian artists. The Immortal Regiment memorial movement was launched in Russia in 2014 and spread to other countries.
