The Pristina-based Collective for Feminist Thought and Action held a protest Wednesday near the police station and the State Prosecutor's Office, with “You are killing women” written on their buildings.
“We want to remind everyone that for girls and women in Kosovo, every day is a battle—a battle to protect themselves from gender-based violence and sexual assault, a struggle to escape bullets and axes. In this fight too, the state continues to side with rapists and murderers, granting them amnesty and perpetuating patriarchy,” said one of the protest organizers.
The Collective demanded that institutions and society take action to support women “in their fight for liberation” and back the „feminist movement against all forms of violence, whenever and wherever it occurs.”
Official data reveals that from 2010 to August 2024, 58 women have been murdered in Kosovo, with most of the perpetrators being husbands, followed by fathers and sons.
