
Vukasin Crncevic, a 19-year-old who was seriously injured in the collapse of a canopy at Novi Sad Train Station, has died at the Military Medical Academy (VMA) in Belgrade, the healthcare institution announced.
His high school, the Svetozar Miletic School of Economics, has displayed a notice of his death along with a black flag.
“Patient V.C. (born in 2006), who sustained severe injuries from the canopy collapse in Novi Sad and was transferred from the Clinical Center of Vojvodina to the Military Medical Academy on January 29, 2025, died on March 21, 2025, at this military medical facility. Despite all necessary treatment measures and the full dedication of the staff at the VMA, the patient succumbed to complex injuries and resulting complications,” the VMA said, expressing its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased young man.
Crncevic is the 16th victim of the tragedy that happened on November 1, 2024.
Student protesters also shared the news of Crncevic’s death on their social media accounts.
He was transferred to the VMA at his mother’s request for continued treatment on January 29 of this year.

In front of the Svetozar Miletic School of Economics in Novi Sad, a black flag has been raised at half-mast along with messages from students. Citizens have been lighting candles and laying flowers in memory of the young man.

In Novi Sad, intersections throughout the city were blocked for 16 minutes to commemorate the victims of the canopy collapse.

A 16-minute silence was also observed at Belgrade’s Republic Square.
Students from the Agricultural School in the Futog area of Novi Sad blocked an intersection and honored the victims by releasing 16 red balloons, N1’s reporters said.

Teodora Martinko, a 23-year-old mother and medical student, was also severely injured in the incident.
