YUCOM says judiciary not fully available to Kosovo Serbs

The Lawyer’s Committee for Human Rights (YUCOM) said that access to the judiciary was not fully available in Kosovo during the integration of Serbian judiciary institutions and warned that the situation deteriorated when Serbs quit institutions.
It said that unresolved issues, such as a shortage of notaries public from the Serb community, are still in place but are just some of the shortcomings in the judiciary.
The press release said that courts in both the Kosovo and Serbian judiciary systems are as efficient as possible but that the public faces problems because the two systems do not recognize each other and their respective documents. YUCOM said the public can’t enjoy their full rights, incurring added expenses to get documents.
YUCOM said in its report that the conditions have to be put in place for judiciary officials and police personnel return to the Kosovo system. It said that other parts of the legal profession also have to reflect ethnic composition.
