Zagreb protests attack on Croatians in Serbia, Vucic condemns incident
Four Croatian nationals were attacked in the Serbian city of Pancevo over the weekend, following which the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs sent a protest note to Serbia, while Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic condemned the attack.
The Pancevo police have detained four persons for causing national, racial and religious hatered and intolerance suspected of assaulting four Croatian citizens on April 13 in Pancevo. Two Serbian nationals and the four Croatian nationals were assaulted and insulted on racial grounds.
The Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs sent a protest note to Serbia in connection with the physical attack on four Croatian citizens and on two Serbian citizens who stood up for them on April 13 in Pancevo, said the Croatian Ministry.
The Ministry strongly condemned this act and noted that, according to available information, it was obviously nationally and ethnically motivated.
Vucic condemns attack
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic condemned the attack, adding that the relevant bodies will do all in their power to prosecute those responsible for this incident.
“That is unacceptable and impermissible. This must not happen anywhere, neither here nor in the region,” said Vucic at the opening of Economy Fair in Mostar, BiH.
It added that it expects Serbian officials to urgently and publicly condemn the attack and requests “urgent delivery of all the relevant information related to the actions of the police and judicial bodies of the Republic of Serbia in this specific case and appropriate punishment of the perpetrators.”
