Zannier, Serbian ministers discuss electoral conditions, ODIHR recommendations

Zannier also spoke with Serbian Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Jelena Zaric Kovacevic.

Dacic briefed Zannier on the activities undertaken by his ministry to advance the electoral process and on the cooperation between the working groups of the ministry and the Serbian Parliament on implementing previously given ODIHR recommendations, said the Internal Affairs Ministry in a press release.

Ambassador Zannier welcomed the formation of the ministry’s working group, and commended its cooperation with the Parliament’s working group in the field of improving the electoral process through the implementation of ODIHR recommendations.

The two officials agreed that the current good cooperation needs to continue, said the press release.

Minister Zaric Kovacevic thanked the Ambassador for cooperation and ODIHR’s efforts aimed at improving the electoral process at all levels, and highlighted that her ministry has always been prepared to implement the ODIHR recommendations, the effects of which are very visible.

The Public Administration and Local Self-Government Ministry quoted her as saying that the legal solutions have facilitated, in a timely manner, changes in the unified electoral roll.

The ministry representatives presented at the meeting with Zannier the most important results achieved in advancing the unified electoral roll.

The Serbian Government has invited ODIHR to observe the local elections due on June 2. The mission’s experts will be monitor if the electoral process meets international criteria and standards, and whether it is in compliance with the national legal framework.
