The EU's task is to stabilize the region of South Eastern Europe not make it even more susceptible to Russia's influence, which is present there, said Zovko.
She noted that stability is South Eastern Europe is of key importance for Croatia, adding that negotiations are a must.
“Of course Serbia will not be able to get away with not imposing sanctions on Russia, it has to take a stand on this matter… Sanctions on Russia will have to follow,” said Zovko.
Even greater determination is need on the part of the EU to show that everything Serbia is getting from the IPA funds should be made conditional on this, and the same goes for Bosnia and Herzegovina, said Zovko.
