Olympic Committee President Bozidar Maljkovic laid a laurel wreath at the memorial plaque on the walls of the hotel, following a decades old tradition while the national anthem was intoned. Maljkovic told the ceremony that the OKS showed its strength and determination in the past year which he said was very challenging. “In the difficult situation of the pandemic we rose above the challenge, took care of our athletes and worked hard to promote the Olympic spirit and best human and sports values,” he said.

He recalled OKS founder General Svetomir Djukic and his fellow officers “who left us the idea of chivalry and fair play in sports which should be passed on to everyday life and communication”. The general and 17 officers formed the Serbian Olympic Club on the fourth floor of Hotel Moskva on February 23, 1910.

The ceremony included the opening of a Virtual Olympic Museum at olimpijskimuzej.rs.
