Telenor to allow SBB onto the mobile phone services market

The Czech company operating in Serbia under the name Telenor is still trying to convince the public that competition will improve thanks to its contract with Telekom Serbia, United Group said adding that the Telenor press release in which it did not distance itself from Telekom’s goals which include joining forces shows clearly that they accepted the role of partner to Telekom in its intention to destroy SBB and the N1 and Nova S free media outlets.

“It’s completely contradictory and hypocritical for them to falsely inform the public that they are offering to broadcast N1 and Nova S on their future cable network which they plan to set up on Telekom infrastructure. They are suing N1 editors and journalists and demanding millions in damages along with a ban on reporting about Telenor which is an unbelievable attempt at censorship,” United Group said.
“We are warning the public that the conclusion stemming from what Telenor spokespeople have said is that they are portraying themselves as a cable operator on Telekom infrastructure. The question is whether Telenor knows in advance what the Commission to Protect Competition will decide.
United Group advocates cooperation under European rules, not under those currently in effect in Serbia. We hope that we can operate without threats, blackmail and under conditions equal for all investors.
Telenor should, having claimed that it abides by European rules of doing business, renounce anti-competition goals in its alliance with Telekom and stop the attacks on independent journalists.
We are calling them to be honest to the public in Serbia and show that they do not want to be Telekom’s subcontractor in the efforts to destroy our company by supporting the SBB company’s entry onto the mobile phone services market and rent its infrastructure at market prices.
The market will be liberal only once all operators on the market are allowed to offer all four services – landline and mobile phone services, Internet and TV services. The public in Serbia will benefit most from this because companies will invest even more money once the conditions are equal for everyone,” United Group said.
United Group includes the SBB company and its EON and Total TV services with media content aired by the Sport Klub, Nova S and N1 TV stations and portals.
